Music Cities Hackathon

For the first time in Berlin, Sound Diplomacy hosts a Music Cities Hackathon in collaboration with the Technology Foundation Berlin and Spielfeld Digital Hub. The Music Cities Hackathon offers a space for experts, entrepreneurs & students from different disciplines to identify innovative and sustainable solutions to tackle the challenges that cities worldwide are facing. The target audience will be experts/students with backgrounds in disciplines including music, programming, architecture, urban planning, creative industries, design and science. The best solutions will not only be presented at the Music Cities Convention, but as part of the prize the teams will also be offered professional support to further develop their ideas.

There will be two focus topics, that the participants will work on:

1. How do you measure a music city?

As the term and meaning of ‘music cities’ proliferates, there’s little data to quantify and prove to decision makers, the value of music in a city.

The aim is to find what the crucial indicators are to measure a music city and what data could be used and generated to create and visualise Music Cities.

So far, Cities just claim to be Music Cities but cannot prove it with data, mostly they are often or only branding exercises for cities/regions.

2. Smart Music Cities Applications

Cities face many issues and challenges. What would be technological solutions for cities in relation to music? This exercise will be open for creative ideas for the city that involve music and sound, but also gives solutions to sound or noise issues that cities might be facing.
